Caving

Join us for an underground aventure to explore some of the many diverse limestone caves that litter Merapoh's landscape.

This is Adventure Caving  - challenging, exhilarating and dirty, but lots of Fun and an unforgettable experience you will definitely want to repeat!

Merapoh is caving paradise -  of the 415 caves here, only 85 caves have been explored and new and exciting locations are still being discovered. Comprising some of the oldest limestone outcrops in the world dating back more than 300 million years, these hidden worlds are still largely undisturbed and teaming with biodiversity, including rare and endemic species.

Follow a rushing river up into the darkness to emerge into pristine jungle on the the other side; marvel at the magnificent rock formations, gravity-defying stalactites and stalagmites, silken flowstones and shimmering crystals. If you're lucky you might meet some of the caves' inhabitants including bats, terrapins, scorpions and snakes.

Many organisations and companies are now using Caving as a unique and fun team building. It's a great learning, teamwork and confidence building activity for people of any age, provided they are of average fitness and flexibility.

Each cave has a unique adventure waiting for you to discover. Join us to experience true cave exploration - no walkways - no lights - just your headlamp and fearless determination!

Gua Padang Kawad

Gua Padang Kawad is the most energetic and exhilarating caving experience. Trek through jungle for 30 mintures to the enterance then follow the river as it rushes underground for almost a kilometre, winding through the tunnels, climbing, crawling and squeezing your way up this casscading waterway to its source! The name translates as 'Marching Field Cave' and comes from the cave's history as a hideout for Communists who used the nearby field as a parade ground, although traces of their presense have since been removed. Now the cave is home to many creatures and you may be treated to the sight of frogs, catfish and bats on your journey. This cave requires a reasonable level of fitness due to its rope climbs up waterfalls and narrow crawls under rock.

Gua Tahi Bintang

Gua Harimau

Gua Harimau or 'Tiger Cave' is so called as local tales tell of close encounters with the King of the Jungle in this cave and although there are not thought to be any tigers in the area at the present time, the cave is still believed to be used as shelter for many animals including the elusive mountain goat. This is a more relaxing cave exploration but no less exciting with a diversity of life to be discovered inside including terrapins, scorpions and snakes as well as weird and wonderful fungi. Wander through the cave marveling at the stunning rock formations, stalagmites, stalactites and beautiful flowstones, and you will still get wet, crossing a stream to reach Merapoh's version of the KL 'Twin Towers', two  majestic towering columns!

Gua Pasir Besar

Pasir Besar

Gua Tahi Bintang or 'Shooting Star Cave' takes its name from the stunning natural mural that adorns one of its walls which is remeniscent of a meteor shower. The markings are caused by mineral deposits leeching through the limestone and this, along with the many other beautiful rock formations and delicate glittering crystals create an enchanting wonderland for all who explore it. This is a relaxed and easy exploration making it a fantastic cave for families.

Gua Kubang Rusa

Gua Kubang Rusa or 'Wallowing Deer Cave' takes its name from the small village nearby. This cave offers a different kind of adventure, combining two exciting activities: cave exploration and dark-water river tubing. Paddle your way into the cave enterance following a river into the darkness. Once inside you will store your tube and continue your journey on-foot to discover the cave's impressive chambers and formations.
